MUSLIM AMERICAN PUBLIC AFFAIRS COUNCIL

                                                                Immediate Release

                                      5/2/2024

This week, the unwarranted targeting of students across multiple campuses at UNC Chapel Hill, NC State University, UNC-Charlotte and many other UNC system schools has confirmed that there are double-standards present for those exercising their constitutional rights especially related to the 1st amendment. As the death toll continues to rise in Gaza, we find it unacceptable that the Biden administration and its affiliates continue to whitewash Israeli settler violence and terrorism by exacting state violence on student protestors.

Students should not be subject to collective punishment for raising their voices against injustice. We also find it unacceptable that the Republican party continues to platform an individual that continues to set a divisive tone built upon racism and xenophobia.

This is why MAPAC-NC stands with students that are exercising their first amendment rights and protesting against systemic racism, genocide, ethnic cleansing and epistemic violence that is supported by institutions in North Carolina.

We denounce the militarized violence and technology being used against students and demand accountability from public safety organizations and political parties across both aisles to take responsibility for allowing this violence to fester. We also call on District Attorney Offices to drop the charges against student protestors and release them safely into the care of community leaders.
