2nd Town Hall Meeting for Wake County Elections

  • 15 Oct 2016
  • 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM
  • Apex Mosque, 733 Center Street, Apex, NC 27502

On October 15, 2016 from 2-5 pm, The Muslim American Public Affairs Council in Association with the Apex Mosque, will sponsor a Town Hall Meeting for the candidates for judicial offices to be elected in November.

Due to the large number of candidates on the ballot this November, there will be 3 Town Hall Meetimgs for candidates to meet with the Muslim Community in Wake County, each involving a different set of candidates. The second of these events will be on October 15 and will focus on candidates for the State judiciary. The meeting will be held at the Apex Mosque. All Muslim residents in the Triangle area are urged to come.

All judges in the North Carolina judicial system are elected. The governor does not appoint them, and the legislature does not review the judges or have any role in their selection. The voters alone are responsible for determining who is qualified, who is best suited to fairly dispense justice and protect individual rights. This Town Hall Meeting will afford Triangle Area Muslims and other Wake County Residents an opportunity to meet the prospective judges in person, hear their views, and ask them questions so as to be better prepared to vote.

Candidates will be given an opportunity to make prepared statements explaining who they are and why they feel they should be elected, then there will be a refreshment and snack break where the candidates can mingle with the Muslim community members in attendance and hear their views. The social/snack break will be followed by a formal, moderated question and answer session during which time candidates will be asked to answer questions from the audience.

This Meeting will be a Public Service program sponsored by the Muslim American Public Affairs Council in cooperation with the Apex Mosque. PEOPLE OF ALL FAITHS AND PERSUASIONS ARE WELCOME TO ATTEND.
